Horyu Koh (Jinkoya Sakubei tribute)
Description
At a Glance: Agarwood - Sandalwood - Woody - Mild spice - Calm and balanced
Main Notes / Character: Horyu Koh features rich Indonesian aloeswood and creamy Indian sandalwood, forming a deep, woody base. Of the three Tribute Line blends, it is the most spice-forward and intriguing, with subtle herbs and warmth that unfold gradually. Calm and meditative, it draws the senses in with a quiet complexity that keeps it engaging from start to finish.
History / Lineage: Part of Baieido’s Jinkoya Sakubei series. A tribute line created in honour of the company’s founder Jinkoya Sakubei, who began trading incense materials in Sakai in 1657 and whose original recipes inspire these blends. The Tribute Line was introduced to commemorate Baieido’s long heritage and uses historic formulas interpreted by the master blenders.
Meaning behind the Name: “Horyu” (鳳龍) evokes imagery of the phoenix and dragon. Symbols of harmony, strength, and energy, reflecting the incense’s balanced and refined character within this historic tribute series.
