Kunsho Koh (Jinkoya Sakubei tribute)
Description
At a Glance: Agarwood - Sandalwood - Woody - Subtle herbs - Elegant and refined
Main Notes / Character: Kunsho Koh centres on rich Indonesian agarwood and creamy Indian sandalwood for a deep, woody fragrance. Of the three Tribute Line incenses, it’s known for the richest agarwood presence. Gentle hints of traditional herbs give it a refined lift without too much spice, making it inviting for meditation, calm focus, or slow, thoughtful moments at home.
History / Lineage: Part of Baieido’s Jinkoya Sakubei series. A tribute line created in honour of the company’s founder Jinkoya Sakubei, who began trading incense materials in Sakai in 1657 and whose original recipes inspire these blends. The Tribute Line was introduced to commemorate Baieido’s long heritage and uses historic formulas interpreted by the master blenders.
Meaning behind the Name: “Kunsho” (薫性) can be interpreted as “arousing fragrance” or “noble aroma,” reflecting the refined depth and elevated character of this incense. It evokes how the scent subtly fills a space, inviting meditation and mindful reflection, while honoring the artistry of Jinkoya Sakubei and centuries of Japanese incense tradition.
