At a Glance: Floral Sandalwood - Fresh Sweetness - Soft Powdery Woods - Light Smoke - Calm - Airy Meditative

Main Notes / Character:
A soft sandalwood base shaped around the idea of a lotus garden. The opening is light, fresh, and slightly sweet, with a clean floral impression that feels airy rather than heavy or perfumed. As it settles, gentle woody notes come through supported by a powdery softness that keeps everything smooth. Compared to Seifu, it is more floral and delicate; compared to Byakudan, more airy and less grounded.

History / Lineage:
Shōren Karaku is part of Yamadamatsu’s Karaku daily incense series from Kyoto, a long-established incense maker with roots in Edo-period herbal and fragrance craft. The Karaku line is designed for everyday use, blending traditional Japanese scent ideas into soft, accessible compositions with low smoke and gentle presence.

Meaning behind the Name:
“Shōren” (青蓮) means “blue lotus,” symbolising purity and calmness in East Asian tradition. “Karaku” (華洛) refers to Yamadamatsu’s daily incense series, focused on simple, elegant interpretations of traditional Japanese fragrance materials.
